Sixty Seven YearsCormar Carpets have been making carpets at their two Lancashire mills just as long as we have been in business and like us their aim is to keep that “local, family feel" in their company.
Cormar is still family-run, as we are too, and they hold both family values and a tireless work ethic which we think are very close to our own. Cormar take great pride in understanding their customers and create flooring that is "just right” for each and every home. Quite simply their core values are centred on giving quality, service and great value - as are ours. These are just some of the reasons we like Cormar carpets so much, and are why we have sold and supplied their flooring for decades.
The original Cormar Carpet Company began in Rossendale in 1924 as Greenwood & Coope, making felts and bindings for the local slipper trade. It was not until the early 1950’s, when the then Finance Director’s son, Neville Cormack joined the business that they began to redirect their activities to carpet manufacturing. Consequently Cormar Carpets was born in 1956, which coincidentally is the very same year that Peter Green open his very first shop in Eastleigh!
But the parallels don’t end there. In the 1960’s the growing Cormar Carpets moved their operations to Brookhouse Mill in Bury, expanding into larger offices and warehousing and a bigger factory site. It was also around this time that Peter Green relocated and opened his massive Walkround Showrooms – the first in the country at that time – in an old factory in the centre of Eastleigh, becoming the biggest independent Furniture and Flooring business in Hampshire.
In the mid 1980’s founder Peter Green was made Freeman of the Borough of Eastleigh in recognition for his contributions to the community, not long before Neville Cormack was awarded an O.B.E. in recognition for work with the Industrial Society in Rossendale. Both companies have grown up and supported their local communities and both companies have provided employment for generations of local people. Peter Green’s Showrooms eventually moved to an even larger premises in Chandlers Ford and all the while Comar have continued to produce their award-winning carpets.
Cormar Carpets essentially pioneered the production of tufted carpets in the UK and is often fondly referred to as ‘Britain’s favorite carpet manufacturer’. It is our love for this company that we have dealt with and grown alongside for so long, that makes us excited to open the New Year with the installation of the newest and biggest Cormar Carpet display in the area. We want to show off their fabulous collection of carpets, which covers the whole gamut from soft deep pile, wool twists, tufteds and wool loops through to stain resistant man-made materials and unique weaves. An easy-clean range is both pet and family friendly and you can find carpets suitable for every room in the house, from high to low traffic areas …even funky stair runners.
