Do You have Pets

Have Pets?

Use these tips when shopping for

Furniture & Flooring in the Winter Sales.

Look for well-built furniture with a sturdy wooden frame, like this G Plan sofa. This is particularly important if you have an amply proportioned canine. The stress of a large dog jumping on and off your sofa can severely limit its life if poorly built.

Choose tightly woven fabrics like microfibre, which is a pet owner’s dream. It is resistant to stains, hard to rip and lasts for a very long time. Low pile fabrics such as synthetic velvet are also a good choice they are robust, easy to clean and less likely to trap odours.

Leather is a good choice but steer towards treated pigmented leathers and top grain hides found on better quality pieces which will be more robust. Be aware that ‘split’ or re-constituted leather, common on less expensive pieces will be less durable. Manmade ‘faux leather’ is also a great way to go.

Pet hair will be less visible if you match your sofa to your pet! Alternatively choose patterned prints or textured fabric which will  make marks harder to spot.

Remember having pets does not necessarily mean you have to sacrifice on style.

Flooring

The Last thing you want to worry about when playing fetch with your pooch is the damage he might do to the floor, and it is not only ware and tear you need to worry about, but the moisture produced by accidents or drool that can also take its toll.

Carpeting can give your companion a non-slip surface to play on. It offers traction unlike tile or hardwood which is slippery and can cause injuries. It also absorbs sound but obviously is not quite as cleanable as a hard floor.

Choose your colours carefully. White is obviously a No No, Match your floor to your pet. If you have light coloured pets do not pick dark flooring and vice versa because you will see every hair. Remember patterns can hide a multitude of sins.

Avoid a loop pile which can be snagged and pulled out, instead go for tufted or twists. Man-made fibres such as bleach-cleanable polypropylene and natural wool-rich carpets are all good choices as far as stain resistance is concerned.

Wet messes and muddy foot prints are more easily cleaned from hard flooring. Luxury Vinyl Tiles (LVT) is a quitter choice and choosing a tile with a textured surface would give more traction. Solid wood is more fragile, noisy, vulnerable to scratches and can stain easily. If you do go for hard flooring then LVT, Cork and Bamboo are all good choices as far as scratch resistance is concerned
