Getting enough sleep isn’t just about the number of hours you sleep but the quality of that sleep. 

If you are having trouble sleeping then you may need to consider speaking with your doctor and/or getting a new bed.

 

 

How Much Sleep Do You Need?

 

Just imagine how harmonious life would be if the whole household got enough zzzzzz's... including the dog!

 

This is a basic yard stick of what various members of the household might need in terms of sleep.

  • Adults - 7 hours plus
  • Teens - 8 to 10 hours 
  • School-aged children - 9 to12 hours
  • Toddlers - 11 to 14 hours a day including naps
  • Babies - 12 to 16 hours a day 
  • New-born’s - 14 to 17 hours a day
  • Dogs - 8 to 14 hours including naps
  • Cats  - 16 to 20 hours including naps

Getting the right amount of sleep is good for body and soul.  It is important for optimal functioning.

How Important is Your Bed?

 

Your bed could also be the culprit. The wrong kind of bed or a worn-out mattress can be stopping you from getting enough sleep.

    • Tossing and turning all night because you are uncomfortable
    • Aches and pains on waking due to mattress deterioration
    • Sagging mattress leading to uneven spinal support

How Old is Your Mattress?

 

While some mattresses are designed to last longer than others, it is inevitable that after time your mattress will start to degrade and lose its pressure-relieving and supportive capabilities. Most manufacturers recommend that you replace your mattress every 8 years or so.

    • Choose the best quality mattress you can afford
    • Find a trained Consultant to help you pick the right product 
    • Ask about your options for different sleepers in the same bed
    • Look for high-quality materials which will last longer 
    • Ask about mattress material for hot or cold sleepers
    • Consider an adjustable bed... they are not just for older people!
    • Talk about any health issues with you sales consultant 
    • Try the bed out in the store most importantly with your partner

 

The amount of sleep you get impacts nearly every aspect of your health and wellbeing and it is miserable when we can't get enough sleep. Without a restful night's sleep it is difficult to be on-the-ball mentally and your body is left without the resources it needs to function properly.
