Celebrate the New Year with New Floors

New office floors can definitely make a big difference in the overall look and feel of your workspace and replacing your floors is a great way to start the New Year!

Typically, your floor is the largest surface of your interior so changing them can have a lot of impact, but it is super important that you get it right.

Before you proceed, there are a few practical things you need to consider:

1.            Budget: Determine how much you're willing to spend on your new office floors. This will help you narrow down your options and find the best fit within your price range.

2.            Flooring Materials: There are various types of office flooring materials available, such as carpet, vinyl, laminate, hardwood, and tile. Each has its own advantages and disadvantages, so it's important to research and choose the one that suits your office space and requirements the best.

3.           Use: Is it a high traffic area, will the floor get wet, are there any people with special needs that need to be taken into account?

4.            Professional Installation: It is a good idea to hire a professional to ensure the job is done correctly and efficiently.

5.            Maintenance and Cleaning: Consider the maintenance and cleaning requirements of the chosen flooring material. Some materials may require more regular cleaning or special care.

Here we have put together some trends to help you approach your commercial flooring project from a slightly different aesthetic angle.

Think Residential!

Lean towards a ‘homely’ design to make your commercial area as comfortable and inviting as your own living room. Warm welcoming decor puts customers and visitors at easy and creates a less stressful environment for your employees which consequently improves output. Cover your floors with warm textures like wood, sisal or carpet to create an inviting atmosphere… alternatively you can go with the very durable luxury vinyl tile (LVT) which can mimic a whole host of residential materials such as flagstone, parquet, plank, linoleum and ceramic tile.

Focus on Colour!

Colours evoke feelings which can affect how we act and interact with in a space. Bold and confident, red, is thought to encourage practical thinking, natural green is both restful and encourages social interaction, blue is a good choice for an office since it is thought to promote creativity. White and other neutrals naturally provide calm, black stimulates intelligent thought and yellow is said to promote optimism. It is well worth considering a little colour theory to help guide you in your final choice.

All about the lines!

Even the way you lay your flooring can make a tremendous difference to your space. Wide diagonal lines in an office can create the illusion of more space and alleviate the formality of the room. Horizontal lines will make the space look wider and is a useful device to make a narrow room appear bigger and likewise a short room can be made to look longer with vertical lines or stripes. Opening up a space in this way promotes teamwork and cooperation.

Separating Spaces!

Flooring can be used to visually separate spaces… for example it can define work areas from breakout or kitchen areas. Using two types of flooring such as wood and carpet or two different patterns of LTV you can help to visually divide up the area or create ‘pathways’ leading people through the space. Using flooring in this way you can break up large expanses with contrasting colours and textures creating a visual sense of separation to an open layout and creating a cosier atmosphere within a larger space.

Remember, your new office floors should not only provide a comfortable, efficient, and productive environment for your team but also enhance the aesthetics of your company. Here we have outlined a number of ideas that can help you with your flooring choices and design. Obviously, the floor you chose must stand up to the wear and tear of a busy office and meet health and safety requirements, which is where we come in.
