In 1956 my father, Peter Green, opened his first furniture business in the small railway town of Eastleigh. His ‘Sleep Shop’ was located on Leigh Road almost opposite the bandstand and in the beginning it sold only beds. Peter Green started his business with £150 capital, a number of years of experience as a furniture representative and bags of enthusiasm. It soon grew into one of the region’s biggest independent furniture superstores. Sixty five years later Peter Green (the business) still has a soft spot for beds and we know the importance of a good night’s sleep.
Deep sleep is as vital for your mental wellbeing as it is for your physical health. Without it life can become pretty miserable. Often the answer to a restful sleep lies in the mattress you choose.
Some years ago hard mattresses were the vogue, then the pendulum swung to products that moulded to your form. Confusing….right? The upshot is that really everyone is different and that is why, when you are searching for a good night’s sleep, you must come to a bed specialist like Peter Green and try the beds out, with a little expert advice thrown in to aid you in your decision.
We have all the top brands in our bed studios but here is a rundown of three of our favourites…
You can count on sheep when you sleep on a Somnus bed. The interiors are filled with sumptuous layers of wool, mohair, hemp and flax grown on their own farm in the Yorkshire Dales. Natural fibres create resilience, breathability and aid temperature control. When combined with Somnus’ Sensa intelligent pocket springs you have the perfect solution for a nourishing night’s rest.
In contrast Mammoth’s medical grade foam mattresses, designed by a leading physiotherapist to improve the wellbeing of Olympic athletes, provide advanced support technologies that deliver both comfort and rejuvenation, by mimicking the support of pocket springs without the weight and expense. You can also sail into a ‘zzz’ filled night with Vi-Spring’s revolutionary, handmade pocket-sprung mattresses. Pioneered in 1901 and still a market leader in the industry today for innovation and technologies, Vi-Spring beds graced the opulent cabins on board the Titanic and other luxury liners of the day. Today Vi-Spring’s handmade-to-order beds lovingly crafted in their Devonshire workshops, recreate a modern version of the luxury of yesteryear for a ‘first class’ sleep. Peter Green Furnishers has a huge range of beds and a very knowledgeable team of Consultants. So rest assured (another bed brand we deal with!), that when you visit us we will have you waking up on the right side of the bed, every morning!
